RE: Tables - top alignment in multiple columns

Actually Hedley, if you look closely the top of the text frame when you have
finished your steps the table still isn't aligned with the top of the text
frame.

To make the table move up to the top of the text frame you need to tell the
Table Format that it has a -2pt Space Above that way it will move up to the
top of the text frame.

Another point to think about is do you really want this paragraph format to
have 0 pts of space above?

When it is at the top of a page or column the space above doesn't apply
anyway, but when you use this format in the middle of the page it is going
to affect the appearance of the document.

I always give my Anchor (that's what I name mine) para format the amount of
space that I would want to have appear above my table i.e. if you would
normally have 12pts of space above a table then enter this amount into the
Anchor para formats Space above.

Now it should work

--------snip

Create a TableAnchor para tag.

Give it a small font size, say, 2pt, and interline spacing of, oh, say, 2
pt.

Give it a space above of 0 pt and a space below of -2 pt (negative
spacing).

The top of the table is now aligned to the top of the text frame.

It is now next to impossible to see or even find the anchoring para. But
that's why you name it -- so you can use Find to look for the TableAnchor
tag.

Actually, anywhere you can put a number into a FrameMaker dialogue can also
be a negative number with interesting results (which sometimes just consist
of it bitching that it wants a postive number!).

Hedley
