Don't worry about setting the numbering properties in the individual files, because those setting only really matter if you are printing that one file (rather than a book that contains the file).
Always set the numbering properties from the book file before you do the book update in preparation for publishing. The numbering properties that relate to the currrent book get saved in the individual files, which means that you wont get the "inconsistent properties" message the next time you work with that same book unless you've worked with one of the other books that share some components in the meantime. But if you *do* work on one of the other books in the meantime, you'll get the message for each one of the shared files in each book. I face this situation all the time, and I simply use the "ignore remaining inconsistencies" option so that FrameMaker can simply do the updates it needs to do without warning me each time. If you've verified the correct setup for the book version you're actually working on, it simply doesn't matter that the properties saved in the files are different than what is appropriate for the current book, so you can safely suppress the "insonsistent properties" warning.

Hello All
I'm working on several books with FrameMaker 7.1.
Many of these books use common files not as text inset but as framemaker
files inserted in the necessary books.
I put attention to give each independant file uniform numbering properties,
I reported these properties for each file in their books.
Although all these careful settings I always have "Inconsistent Numbering
Properties" alerts when generating some of these books.
This alerts means that numbering properties specified for the independant
file are different from the properties specified for the file in the book.
I checked the numbering properties for the independant file and for the file
in the book but there is no difference.
Most of the time that alert appears when the common file is inserted in two
different books just after the TOC file. It seems that when the TOC file
contains different number of pages in the two books, FrameMaker is unable to
give a continuous numbering to the next file in the book when that last is
also used in another book. It works well for the first book generated, but
FrameMaker displays its "Inconsistent Numbering Properties" alert when
generating the secund book.
Has someone already encountered this type of problem ? Is it possible to
solve it ? I would like to automate book generations with framescript, but I
would like to set before a generation process without any errors.
Thanks
Vincent
