Not being an expert on InDesign, I wonder if vector graphic editing that you do with it can be saved as separate EPS or AI files outside of the InDesign file(s) that you are working on, or moved between ID files? If not, then you have too limited flexibility with the graphic (as is the case in FM now). Which brings me back to my "why bother using the built-in tools" question.

Unless it's a budget issue.
