Make NO assumptions vis-a-vis FrameMaker becoming a "second class
citizen in the long document field."

There is no question that Illustrator and its ilk can run rings
around InDesign in terms of the number of features it has with
regards to vector artwork. And obviously, neither InDesign or any
similar program provides any image editing. But for vector graphics
used for a large percentage of documents that would be edited with
InDesign, the depth and sophistication of InDesign's vector artwork
editing capability is quite sufficient. This is alas, not true with
the vector artwork capabilities of FrameMaker at this time.
