I've had a similar experience, with FM 6.0 (no SGML). I have a (client-supplied) set of templates, and go through a regular process of "Import Formats" to construct each file. In a 21-chapter book, I found two chapters that lacked some master-page elements, both in FM's "native" display and in PDF. Some of the missing elements were on the "Chapstart" master page, which is 3 of 4 (Left, Right, Chapstart, Blank). Repeated import of "Page Layouts" did nothing. In desperation, I opened a good chapter file, and -- on the Left master page -- selected all, copied, went to the problem chapter file, deleted all of the Left master page, pasted, then went back to Body view. The first page of the chapter, based on the Chapstart master page, was now fine -- yet I hadn't touched either the body page or its underlying master page. I have no doubt that the problem was caused by some (essentially minor) file corruption. I will guess that the file corruption occurred because of memory or network problems. I will go to my grave believing that Windows (2000 Pro in this case) is part of the problem rather than part of the solution. But I still wonder what kind of glitch could exhibit this bizarre behavior.
