"...an odd suffix" error message

Got this one today:

" The document was saved to a temporary file, but FrameMaker 
can't rename it to have the correct name. The newer version 
has an odd suffix. "

Okay.... things I checked:
- no auto, recover,  or lck files in the file's directory or the temp
  directories
- Frame had not crashed since the last reboot
- Frame *did* crash three times yesterday... so there were 
  29 files named "FRM*.tmp" in the temp directory (where * is
  some hexidecimal number)
- no other "odd" suffixes

Anyone have a clue what's causing this? The file name does
have a "-" in it, but that hasn't caused me problems before.
