Michael, Alexia, Karen, and all - | Is there any way to lock up tag definitions or a least make | it difficult to do so? If the authors would at least have do | some extra button pushing to override agreed upon definitions | they would be reminded to check with the group before doing | so. The answer is a qualified yes: You will need to modify the FrameMaker installation, but it is entirely possible _without_ needing a custom program or FDK plug-ins to alter the user interface so that authors' do not have either the menu entries or the keyboard short-cuts enabled to access: - the paragraph designer - the character designer - the table designer - edit shortcuts effectively making them able to apply whatever formats exist in the template, but not make _any_ changes to those, which is the equivalent to being able to lock the definitions. This will require changing several files (exactly which ones depends on the platform you are using), and has to be replicated on each different system that has Frame installed for which you wish to prevent creating or modifying formats. (I expect that you would want to have at least one 'master' system that can make appropriate changes to the templates after a decision to do so is reached.) Also, if FM is upgraded or reinstalled, the custom changes will need to be redone. - Lester ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lester C.
