The problem described in the original post was to place an icon so that it could be runin with text. I've used the sidehead method of producing icons described below by Tammy Halter, and it works, but the easiest method is to simply use a pre-formatted, untitled, 1-row, 2-column, unruled table, where the paragraph having the icon (as a frame above) is placed in the first column, and the text to the right of it is placed in the second column. The table format for each icon is set up in the Table Designer. The first column has the proper width to accommodate the icon. The default paragraph in the first column is the paragraph that produces the icon. The default paragraph in the second column is the one used for ordinary body text. After all the setup is done, you update the table format in the Table Designer, consequently, when you insert the table, the two columns have the proper width, the icon appears in the first column, and you're ready to type the text in the second column. If you use a sidehead column (or if all normal body text is indented by a couple of inches from the left margin, the first table column containing the icon can be made to appear in the sidehead column (or in the whitespace of the left margin if there is no sidehead), and the text in the second column appears aligned just as it would if it were not in a table. Note, however, that if a sidehead is present, the anchor pagragraph for the table must be set to span both the sidehead and normal text columns if you want the icon in the first table column to appear in the sidehead. The Table Designer can be used to adjust the space above/below, as well as the top/bottom margins, so that the vertical spacing of the text in the table relative to the text above and below the table is just the same (or at least almost the same) as it would be if it was not in a table. If you opt to use the sidehead method, here are a few things to remember: 1. The reference frames containing the icons must be the same width as the sidehead column. 2. The top edge of the graphic should (normally) coincide with the top edge of its reference frame. 3. The sidehead only paragraph containing the icon must specify the icon as a frame below. 4. If you want the text in the normal text column to line up with the top edge of the icon, you'll need to insert an empty spacer paragraph in the normal text column before the first line of text, otherwise the text will start above the top edge of the icon. The spacer paragraph (same font size as the icon paragraph) has the line spacing set so that the combination of that value and the space above setting for the paragraph containing the first text line will achieve the desired alignment. These alignment problems are avoided when the the 2-column table method is employed. Note also that either of the two methods of icon placement described above works just as well when you use the sidehead column for things other than icons. ===================================================================== At 10:50 AM 7/9/99 +1000, Tammy Halter wrote: >Karen, > >Yes we responded to Rick on this one a month or so ago.
