Hi. >I had three major problems: > >1. Was easy -- accept the inevitable and produce online PDFs only for >Japanese Windows. (with download all fonts as Type 42). PDF sizes are about >7 Mb To the point - John, be very conservative with [CJK] Type 42 inside PDF/PS please. Your customers should be have an inconvertible problem in PS RIP imagesetter/printer/copier with Type 42 CJK embedded fonts. Do you like a lot of corrupted films with Courier instead TT MS Mincho? It's a money.. The main problem of Japanese (really all CJK) DTP in non-CJK countries is hardware-protect of CID/OCF font solution. Are you attract to letter "J" at the end of printer names in the list of possible printers in J version of Windows? And Adobe hasn't final CJK solution for Windows platform together PS CJK fonts NOW and in the nearest FUTURE. Therefore 98% of Japanese DTP are making on Mac. Type 42 required PS Level 2.015 or high (may be .014 - don't remember exactly) for PS RIP/Printer. A majority of real RIP in pre-press firms out of Japan can to have old PS Level 2 interpreter - for inst. Dolev. And Convert to un-hinted Type 1 (softfont outline) is best solution for Non-Japanese standard PS RIP...
