Subject: Japanese PDFs -- revisited

At my age, I should know not to announce success until the dust settles. Those who care about such things may remember my posting earlier today about PS drivers, etc, for producing Japanese language PDFs, and my limited but adequate success. Well, the online PDFs made using Dov's setup and proper J 4.2.4 PS drivers don't work on all Japanese operating systems as I thought. It seems some other factor is needed (I suspect that Japanese Reader or Exchange is required, and we don't ship either with our software). So I changed tack again and booted up NT J (again), and used the NT driver for our network HP 5Si/5Si MX PS. Had to switch off Generate Acrobat Data, though (bug-ger!). The output is biggish (25Mb v 7Mb) ;-) and print quality is crap, but it looks sort of OK onscreen. Have yet to try it with a "client"-standard machine (32Mb RAM, P120), but it might just pass. Chinese Simplified, using the methode Dov, runs like a steam train. If someone else asks me why CS PDFs work when J PDFs don't ...
