All UNIX systems have all documentation, including the User Guide, in the installation directory. User Guides for (I think) FM 5.1 and earlier -- that is, the Frame Technology versions before Adobe dumbed them down -- have a series of hyperlink buttons for each alphabetic group in the top margin of each Index page. You can steal them for your own manuals or set up by hand. Create an **anchored** frame on your master page's background and give its anchor the conditional tag of 'PDF'. Within the frame, add the alphabetic group titles using the graphics text tool (non-flow). Draw a text box on top of each group title. Click in the text box then insert a hyperlink marker that points to the appropriate group title. (Examine the marker at the start of each group title in the Index to get the name of the target that the hyperlink statement is to point to -- from memory, I think it is just the letter of the alphabet, but I am not sure what happens with 'X,Y,Z' group titles.) Because the hyperlink button are on the master pages, they will appear on every body pages and are converted to PDF hyperlinks. When you print the manual to paper, hide the PDF condition. When you 'print' to Acrobat PDF, show the PDF condition.
