Subject: "Save As PDF" Not Working; Merging PDF Files via Exchange

Fellow Framers, I have 2 questions/problems WRT generating and manipulating a PDF. (My system is running FM 5.5.6, Exchange 3.01, Distiller 3.02, Driver 4.2.4, Win95.) (1) Suddenly I am unable to create PDF files via the "Save As PDF" function. Last week, I could PDF blissfully. This week, none of my books survive the journey - Distiller promptly flushes (before processing the first page), displaying a FmPA postscript error. The driver postscript properties are set to "optimize for portability". As far as I can tell, all seems well with the book files, etc. Nothing in my system has changed from last week. (2) Let's say I have Book1. I create 2 PDF files from this book via the traditional FM2PS2PDF route: one with all chapters except the appendix (PDF_A); one with just the landscape appendix (PDF_B). After I insert PDF_B into PDF_A via Exchange and save the results, the following oddities happen: * None of the appendix bookmarks work. * None of the cross-references between core manual and appendix work (I'm assuming this occurs because, once they exist within the PDF world, the cross-references are PDF specific rather than, say, book or file specific). How do I make these xrefs hot again - "gotolink" commands at the file level? * If a user were to make the unwise decision to click on one of the nonfunctional xref links, Acrobat (Reader or Exchange) opens the unmerged PDF_A (which officially no longer exists, as it was overwritten!). What is going on? Thanks! R ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
