RE: hidden definitions/uses of missing fonts

I ended up rebooting my machine several times yesterday. 
The procedure below now seems to work (on the one book I've opened so
far this morning).  

> > 1. Uncheck Remember Missing Font Names. 
> > 2. Open files with missing fonts. 
> > 3. Save files. 

I have no idea what changed between yesterday and today that enabled
this to work.
