While I didn't mean to turn this into any bashing of FM, there are some "features" that every major application on the Mac and most on Windows supports. These are features which have been left out of FrameMaker. It could be due to the UNIX heritage of FM, but regardless they bug me to no end that a product that has been around as long as FrameMaker hasn't been able to update itself. Examples: * Look and Feel. This is one that is purely subjective, but we've moved on since System 7 and Windows 3.1. However, the general look and feel of FM is still stuck in those eras. Granted I've become very spoiled with Mac OS X and how gorgeous most applications look just by following the Human Interface Guidelines Apple has published for Mac OS X. But even on Windows XP, FrameMaker looks a bit tired. Again this is the most subjective of my objections. * Drag and Drop. If I have a paragraph on page 3 and want to move it to page 4, I can't simply highlight the paragraph and drag it to the new spot. I have to cut and paste the document. When you have to do this a lot, it becomes tiresome. Drag and drop has been available in most major applications for a long time. * Find/Find Next. This is another small annoyance that I hate. Why can't Adobe correct what has become standard everywhere else. Cmd-F Find. Cmd-G Find Next? These are small and petty (as are the list of other things I have), but when you use a product 8+ hours a day it would be nice for Adobe to update the product past it's basic roots.
