You should consider MicroType's SP TimeSavers. You can embed the information you need right in the FrameMaker file. When the file is distilled, TimeSavers converts the embedded information into the corresponding PDF feature. Since TimeSavers is an addon to Distiller, it should work with UNIX, as well as PC and Mac.
