Thread-Topic: fmbatch post script print problem
In agreement with Thomas Michenek's post about this over on free-framers, I am baffled as to why you want to do this. If the idea is to use the .ps to make a PDF, then why not just use the PDF? Two questions: Q: What is the .ps file for? Q: What happens if you print the PDF to a .ps file? As you have already found, the Print dialog on UNIX is "smart"... If you turn on Acrobat Data, FM assumes you want to create a PDF file. You can print to a PS file with Acrobat Data directly from the Print dialog, but you cannot save those print settings. > the workaround of leaving "Generate Acrobat Data" unchecked in my post > script print settings file, i assume, eliminates such things as hyperlinks > and bookmarks from my post script file output. my documents must have > hyperlinks so this doesn't seem an option. But why do you need to create PS files with Acrobat Data, instead of PDF files directly? I assume such PS files would be used to create PDF files anyway, so why not create them directly? There is no reason creating a PS file for printing purposes containing Acrobat Data. I don't consider this behavior a bug. The Print dialog in UNIX is for most purposes a lot more logical than the Windows counterpart. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Thomas Michanek, FrameMaker/UNIX/MIF expert Technical Communicator, Uppsala, Sweden mailto:Thomas.Michanek@telia.com (Sweden) http://go.to/framers/ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Join the low-volume "Free Framers" mailing list: send an email to majordomo@omsys.com with "subscribe framers" in the body ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. ** -----Original Message----- From: Ken Luke [mailto:ken_luke@mentorg.com] Sent: Friday, March 14, 2003 10:27 AM To: Framers List Subject: Re: fmbatch post script print problem Setting "Generate Acrobat Data" disables the printing of a PS file. If you find out otherwise, please let me know because this has been a thorn in our side for several years. If you need an Acrobat-enhanced PS file, we have found that the only way to do this is to print a PDF file and grab the temporary PS file (via a second shell script) before Frame deletes it. ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
