We have repeated supplied the information that you are seeking on the various Framers email lists and the Adobe User to User forums. First of all, with FrameMaker 6, don't even attempt to use "save as PDF" as it does not work consistently with any version of FrameMaker earlier than FrameMaker 7. Secondly, you should NEVER, repeat NEVER, create PostScript for distillation using anything other than a printer driver instance associated with the Acrobat Distiller PPD. That includes PPDs such as those for "Generic PostScript" (that's somewhat of a contradiction in terms) or the clonescript "LaserJet 4550", etc. Third, assuming that you have the full version of either Acrobat 4.05 or Acrobat 5.0.5 installed, the installation of Acrobat creates a PostScript driver instance labelled "Acrobat Distiller" based upon the Acrobat Distiller PPD. Unless you are trying to create PDF from a "book" in FrameMaker 6, printing directly to this PostScript printer driver instance will generate PostScript and then automatically feed that to the Distiller in background. Assuming that you only have the Distiller 4.05 bundled with FrameMaker, you should create a PostScript printer driver instance using the Adobe Universal PostScript Printer Driver Installer 1.0.6, downloadable from Adobe's web site, and associate that with Distiller PPD (in the DISTILLR\XTRAS directory) and set that for the FILE: port. Then print to that and manually distill the resultant PostScript into PDF. (You could also use "watched folders" for this purpose). Also note that we recommend setting the PostScript driver for 600 dpi for use with FrameMaker. There is a bug that cause content to be lost on output at higher resolutions with larger page sizes (including the 11x17 page size you are using). I don't accept PayPal for my advice. I consider myself lucky that I still get a paycheck from Adobe.
