Linda, The missing <link> (sorry, I couldn't resist) is a CHARACTER format that was defined in the template (I hope) or a specific document, but has since been deleted and thus is no longer available. There are two 'types' of building blocks that appear in the list: system building blocks (like <paranumonly>) and character tags saved in the catalog. Because the character tags can differ from file to file, this explains why you don't see the <link> in the available list. You can either edit the cross-reference format(s) to no longer use that format by deleting the <link>, or you can define the format as you wish and save it in the character catalog. If I had to guess, the link format set the text to blue and underlined to look like the hypertext links people are familiar with from HTML files on the web. N.B. - the lack of the character format should not affect the viability of the cross-reference, only its appearance in the document. IF you are having cross-references that do not work or don't update, there is some other problem. Can you provide some more details about what is happening? -- Lester --------------------------------------------------------------------- Lester C. (I may be misunderstanding, but I thought building blocks came supplied by FM.) in sum, I'm needing to manually re-insert the cross-references anew to make them viable. is there a more efficient way to go about this? I was hoping FM would continue to recognize cross-references in their new context. can FM help me w/ this? (we have also recently upgraded to 7.0, but that went smoothly, and I don't believe that plays into this issue.) appreciate any guidance in advance, linda ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
