Thanks Brian (and Lester). This is good to know. These lists are great resources! Smalley (Archives; Sat, 21 Apr 2001) may help to counter this tendency: "..I have a large number of files that I can open, click on words, phases, entire paragraphs, tables, figures, etc. and then be able to close without triggering the message regarding saving changes. The trick is that I have previously set these files to disable automatic update of both cross-references and text insets, which is NOT the default behavior. To set this, use the Edit->Update References menu (or ESC e U keyboard shortcut), and in the resulting dialog window select the option to Suppress Automatic Updating via the commands pull-down from the upper-right corner (or, you can use ESC e S as a shortcut to get you right to the suppress... dialog). Once set, you can open the file as often as desired, and as long as you don't make any changes that FrameMaker will preserve (content and formatting of course, but also viewing borders, rulers, grid lines or the zoom value, among other things) you will NOT be prompted to save the file every time. The down-side is that you must explicitly request the references to be updated when desired. But if these files are part of a book, that can be automated easily via FM's book update feature. -- Lester HTH, Brian > -----Original Message----- > From: bounce-framers-59273@lists.FrameUsers.com > [mailto:bounce-framers-59273@lists.FrameUsers.com]On Behalf Of David > Schor > Sent: Thursday, September 19, 2002 9:30 AM > To: Framers List > Subject: Opening Files Prompt Save Questions > > > This may sound like a silly question, but it's bugged me about FrameMaker > for many YEARS!
