Thanks for the head's up on that one. The good news is that it doesn't
appear to be a global problem. I have both my temp and spool directories
on a separate partition (G:) and had no problems on one of the systems
that I upgraded. The other system is similarly configured but has problems
very much unlike the "ntoskrnl.exe" missing problem you encountered.
I think the real issue is that no matter where you put temp or spool
directories, all flavours of Windows 2000 and XP expect that the boot
partition will have plenty of expansion space for all sorts of purposes,
including storage of "uninstall" files, backups to service packs, profiles,
etc.
