User Manual for a Structured Application

Recently, I developed a turnkey FM+SGML application for importing XML
instances to produce large product catalog.

The XML instances are produced from sets of data records in a database,
thus the application is an example of a new way to accomplish database
publishing.

To further complicate things, I developed the complete application package
in FM+SGML 6.0, but the client needs to run it on FrameMaker 7 in order to
import XML.

To make sure everything would work as intended when the client took
possession, I've produced a 48-page User's Manual that provides complete
details and procedures for installing, upgrading, testing, and customizing
the application, as well as detailed instructions for producing the catalog
with the installed application. The User Manual was produced using an EDD
and template I had developed previously for a procedure-oriented ATA 2000 DTD.

I'm pretty proud of the application and the User Manual. Actually, the User
Manual demonstrates not only how I approach FM+SGML application design, but
also shows off the approach to procedural instructions used in ATA manuals,
as well as my approach to writing such procedural instructions.

I thought some of you might be interested in getting a copy of the manual
for reference purposes, so I'm offering it free (PDF format) to all takers.
If you're interested, drop me a request by email.
