Lin, You do indeed misinterpret the situation. I have answered this in other private messages but should do so in public as well: The problem is that FM6 and FM7 open and analyze every file when you open the book. I would have no problem with launching a generate/update in the evening to leave the computer to work overnight. But as it is, the time from double-clicking the book file to actually being able to work is in the range of hours. Or, if another user's experience is accurate, as extreme as 10 minutes per 100 files. This should not be the case. There is absolutely no valid reason for FM to open, analyze, and close every bloody file in a book just because I've opened it. Previously, FM handled books with absolutely no limit on the number of files. The only time the speed of your computer, size of RAM, or number of files in your book would try your patience is when you attempted to generate/update. Now however, your patience is tried even with moderately complex books each and every single time you open the book file. Eric L. Dunn Hmmm. Sent the last note before I read this one. I will (provisionally) take back what I said, since this does sound rather odd. I still think that the number of files being opened simultaneously, no matter the application, will take a while; but that is, admittedly, because that's always been my experience. On the other hand, maybe my machine isn't tuned well. ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
