Hi, It should be possible to generate two different TOCs for one book. That way you could keep the book formatting in one and have the table formatting in the other. If you find a way of formatting the TOC paragraphs with lines above and below to look like a table, I think that would be the best. Using x-refs in a table seems like a rather uncertain method that also involves a lot of manual work. If you really need to use a table, convert one of the book TOCs to a 2-column table in FrameMaker. The paragraph to table converstion usually gives good results and preserves the hypertext links. However, since you split the text and numbers in different cells, only one of them will contain the link (probably the text). You will probably also have to resize the columns after every conversion. Our book TOC is a genererated TOC Our chapter TOC is to appear like a table with two columns ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- | Topic | See Page | |--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------| | Installing the xxx module | 2-2 | |--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------| | Connecting cables to the xxx module | 2-6 | |--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------| | Removing the xxx | 2-8 | |--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------| Right now we plan to insert x-refs to headings and page numbers in a table. Is it possible to make an auto-generated Chapter TOC look like a table? I have been thinking of a TOC paragraph format with lines above and below and graphics charaters in the numbering field of the paragraph designer. This idea won't work, however, as the book TOC is a normal TOC which is not in a table. Generating a Chapter TOC and by hand converting it to a table seems to difficult to handle.
