Re: Text frames: centering text vertically

Hi Michael,

Forgive me if this has been answered already -- I'm a few days behind on
this list.

To do what you want to do, use a little-known feature called feathering --
vertical adjustment of spacing such that the text frames are filled, top to
bottom. This feature exists to allow replication of some professional-style
book layouts, but I've used it only to center a single paragraph in a text
frame -- just what you're looking to do.

To center a lone paragraph in a disconnected text frame, place one empty
paragraph above the non-empty paragraph to be centered and another below
it. Then go to Format / Page Layout / Line Layout and click the Feather
option on. You'll probably want the max inter-line spacing to be zero, and
the max inter-paragraph spacing to be some large number.

When set, you will see the first empty paragraph at the top of the frame,
the last empty paragraph at the bottom, and the middle, non-empty paragraph
exactly between them.
