VM means virtual memory; your PC can't process the distiller job because it's running out of memory. How to fix it? I think this may fall into the category of "If your head hurts when you bang it against a wall, don't do that." Did you try distilling using the correct procedure, by printing to a PS file and then invoking Distiller? And, to help your machine along, closing other applications while you're distilling? A.
