Preventing highlight colors from dropping out upon printing fromAcrobat?

This query concerns controlling, if possible, graphics quality output from
Acrobat Reader, typically on the PC, when printing, primarily to greyscale
devices. While I don't mean to bask in my ignorance of color management, we
are not dealing with fine or photographic images or high res printing, thus
my need-to-know regarding CMS issues is, I think, limited. I'd like to keep
it that way as long as possible due to more pressing rigors on the job...

I create the figures in our dox with Photoshop 6/Mac as RGB files with PS's
default color management settings (I presume sRGB-whatever version #ing) and
save them as gifs. [the quality level works for our needs; this is not an
invitation to reenter the previous discussions regarding various eps flavors
and management] I use a variety of midtone to highlight values for shading.
They view onscreen in PS, FM, and Acro just fine, and print from FM true to
their saturation.

>From the Mac, I just now trouble-shot away a previous problem, that being
that these values would drop out to white; I set Acro5 advanced print prefs
to "Color Mgmnt: Same as Source" and saved the settings (note: this setting,
buried in the print dialog, will be lost whenever I have to reinstall
drivers or recreate desktop printers...grrr).

Here's the question: how can I preserve this outcome within the Acrobat file
so copies printed by recipients using Reader/Windows will maintain the same
grayscale values? If I can't preserve it w/in the file, are there simple
instructions I might include on the inside front cover as a printing note?

Thanks,
