These limits are not specified anywhere, but a little testing and extrapolation of the information that is available yields the following: * All printable characters are allowed, i.e. any characters that you can enter through the keyboard, including the special notations like "\TM" and "\xHH". * The tag is space- and case-sensitive. * The number of allowed characters is very large, more than 100 and probably at least 255. > I would also be interested in the limits on other tags, incl. > autonumbering as well. All format tags probably have the same limitations. There is no technical reason for a paragraph tag to be more restricted than a flow tag, for instance. When looking at MIF, tags are stored in the same way, so they should be implemented uniformly. > I have a vague memory of a useful discussion (by Fred Ridder?) > regarding the limits on tags for autonumbering and thought I had > saved it, but can't find it now. You probably refer to the "series label" for autonumbering series. This is actually documented: "A series label consists of any single printable character followed by a colon". See above for "printable". - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Thomas Michanek, FrameMaker/UNIX/MIF expert mailto:Thomas.Michanek@telia.com (Sweden) http://go.to/framers/ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Join the low-volume "Free Framers" mailing list: send an email to majordomo@omsys.com with "subscribe framers" in the body ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
