"PDF Best Practices", a new series at PlanetPDF

In the next few weeks, PlanetPDF (http://www.planetpdf.com) will publish a
series called "PDF Best Practices". In this series, I discuss my
recommendations and provide tips for producing better online/interactive
screen-oriented PDFs.

Each article touches on a specific aspect such as better bookmarks, search
function, navigation and layout.

The first article in this series
(http://www.planetpdf.com/mainpage.asp?webpageid=1519) offers suggestions
for trimming the PDF fat - finding out which elements in a file may be
contributing unnecessarily to its size (depending in part on the file's
particular use), and explaining how to remove the excess without impairing
any needed functionality.

The series focuses on PDF, not on specific authoring tools. However, as the
examples used in this series - Acrobat 5.0 help file (Acrohelp.pdf) and the
PDF document collection included in the Adobe Acrobat 5 CD (additional help
files and SDK documentation) - were authored in FrameMaker, subscribers to
this list may find several of the issues mentioned directly related to
their PDF projects.
