I presume you mean 'monospace' and not 'monotype'? Anyway, a non-proportional font.


Yes. Books I work with use the following alternatives to Courier or Courier New, mainly for sections of source code:

. LetterGothic 12Pitch BT

. Monspace821 BT

The latter is particularly pleasant, imho. It's available from Bitstream.

I think you will find that all the major font suppliers can supply any font in either TrueType or PostScript Type 1. The supply of OpenType fonts is more limited, but is increasing. If you have the option of OpenType, it's probably worth going for, as the fonts are so much more versatile, and often much better value, as they include glyphs and expert sets (although that's less relevant for a monospace font).
