RE: Optimize files in FM6

Thanks to Lee, Chris and Thomas for your insights.
However, my tests do not give the expected results.

First, let's see if I got the idea right:
If I want to reduce the size of PDF files created
from FM 6, I need to turn off the option
"Create Named Destinations for all paragraphs".
If the FM files are version 5.5 files, I really need
to "optimize" these files for the above option to have
the desired effect (when turned off).
(This is what the dialog says; the manual is unclear.)

If I decide to turn on the option, version 5.5 files
do not need to be optimized, since named destinations
will be written for all paragraphs anyway.

However, an extensive test I made showed the following:
If I open and convert an FM 5.5 book and all its files in
FM 6, without optimizing, and then create a PDF file with
"Create Named Destinations for all paragraphs" turned
either on and off, the results are:
* turned on: 3686 K
* turned off: 2994 K

If I instead choose to first optimize the FM 5.5 book
from FM 6, then open it and all its files in FM 6,
and finally create a PDF file with
"Create Named Destinations for all paragraphs" turned
either on and off, the results are:
* turned on: 3686 K
* turned off: 2994 K

That is, exactly the same! (Of course, I used the same
computer, the same Distiller printer, and the same
Distiller job options. And, I made sure to select all
the files in the book when changing the Links option.)
The Distiller logs show exactly the same warnings about
named destinations, too.

So, If I get a reduced PDF file size *without* optimizing
my FM 5.5 book first, why should I bother optimizing?
