I recall someone having the system crash. I recall others having Acrobat crash during the Distill process (distillation?), and have also heard something about a memory leak. Are we certain these are AdobePS 4.3 problems and not some other variable? > I've used 5.5.6, PS4.2.6 and Acrobat 4.0, and haven't > noticed any problems yet. However, I also don't use TT > fonts in my docs, so for me the whole Type42 > searchability issue is moot. If the TT / Type42 searchability is moot, are there any other errors known in an environment using a mixture of Type 1 PSfonts and True Type fonts with FM 5.5.6, AdobePS 4.3, and Acro Distiller 3.02? (Given the OS is Win98 and the latest non-clone PPD is used.) Let's say we do go ahead and use the Adobe sanctioned FM 5.5.6, AdobePS 4.3, and Acrobat 4 environment instead. What compatibility issues exist if users (refusing to download and install the free Acro Reader 4) open a PDF created in Acrobat 4 in a version of Acro Exchange 3.x? I seem to recall that, for the most part, Acrobat 4's backward compatibility is okay. However, some errors have been encountered with color tables. I think other dialogs appeared, but by clicking "OK" the file was still accessible. It is far preferable to use the latest software. If we can forecast the problems, maybe we can have a small island of Acrobat 4 seats until everyone else is able to move up. Using FM 5.5.6 and a beta version of Acrobat 4, we were able to create nice high-end, prepress friendly, full color PDFs. These PDFs kept spot colors and made our vendors happy. We would like to use FM to PDF for all color jobs. Can the AdobePS 4.2.6 and Distiller 3.02 accomplish this without making CMYK separations yourself (as mentioned by Brad in the past)? Sorry for carrying this on and snowballing the issue, but I've got to understand all this if I'm going to eliminate Quark and make a crusade for Acrobat 4 in my little realm. Long live the Frame Templars! Thanks again for the helpful replies everyone. Jason ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
