list of figures and reference pages

I am making a List of Figures, which includes entries from the regular
chapters and from an appendix.  When the list is generated, the entries
from the chapters read
	1-1	name of figure	page #
	1-2	name of figure	page #
but the entries from the appendix read
	name of figure		page #
Why doesn't the figure # to show up for the appendix?  (Previous books have
not had appendices with figures in them, so I haven't had this problem
before.) The reference page, which I inherited from persons long-gone,
contains the following coding:

<$paratext> <$pagenum>
<$paratext> <$pagenum>
openObjectId <$relfilename>:<$ObjectType> <$ObjectId>
<$paranumonly> 	<$paratext>		<$pagenum>
openObjectId <$relfilename>:<$ObjectType> <$ObjectId>
<$paranumonly> 	<$paratext>		<$pagenum>

While we're on the subject, is there a comprehensive explanation of how to
build and change reference pages for generated lists out there anywhere?

I'm using 5.1.1 on a Power Mac.  Thanks in advance for your help!
