I have a medium-sized FM project with a serious problem -- and I'm stumped: 1. I converted a bunch of files from Word, no problem. I generated a new ToC and Index file. No problem, they worked fine and generated properly. 2. I saved the files to the network at this company, discovering in the process that it does not support long filenames (incredible, but true). So, I needed to convert some of the files to new names -- the book file, and the generated ToC and Index. 3. I followed the steps on page 340 of the FM User Guide: (a) Saved the book file with a shorter name (and a .bk extension) (b) The names of the generated files DID change in the book window as promised. I went on to manually rename the files on the disk, matching the names in the book window. PROBLEM: When I re-generate the files, FM generates a NEW ToC and Index, with the same name but devoid of all the formats. It also deletes the structure I set up on the reference page (removes dot leaders, etc.) and just sets it all to a plain vanilla ToC or Index, with no layout or format information preserved. The new file just pops up on my screen, minimized, as if I was creating the ToC or Index for the first time. If I don't save it, I am fine... except that the files are not regenerated! More perplexing, sometimes it seems to work properly, preserving the formatting and reference page information. I've done this many times before and never encountered such a problem. Anyone have any ideas? I thought it might have something to do with the short 8.3 file names, but am not sure...
