RE: Orphans and Widows (which is which)



Widow is a short line at the end of a paragraph, according to the
Chicago Manual of Style, 14th Edition. It doesn't have orphan in the
index but as I recall it's generally considered to be a stray word on a
line by itself.

Hello Framers,

I always confuse widows and orphans and don't have a ready-reference to
set 
me straight.

One is a single word on the last line; the other is the last line of a 
paragraph by itself at the top of a column. Which is which? Thanks in 
advance.
