Censorship and other big yawns

Perhaps this whole mess could have been avoided if the moderator had
announced on the old list

(a) what was wrong with the list and why it was necessary to move

(b) asked subscribers to submit what functionality they thought a good
list should have

(c) asked subscribers to suggest various list servers that could be
investigated,
possibly mentioning the outstanding features of each

The moderator could then have announced her decision and warned
subscribers what
to expect during the transition, including such things as moderating
all/some/random posts
for whatever reason.

Like, we all work in the software industry, and how do we go about
introducing new products?
We investigate what users want via surveys, focus groups, and design
mockups for usability.
Seems like a similar process could be used for list servers!

Regards,
Hedley
