RE: Workflow

The solution we offer to clients (even before we became resellers!!) is to
use Mif2go. We find that clients prefer using Word for just about
everything. Therefore, using the RTF export function in Mif2go we create
Word files that look the same as the Frame files. I am sure there will be
people out there who prefer alternative solutions but in my experience the
Word solution has always been the one most preferred.

Disclaimer: I am biased in favor of a PDF review workflow.

Having used PDF successfully for online reviews for years, I'm wondering why
this process is too tedious. Our process is to receive markups in the PDF,
mark each comment as completed (or rejected!) as we incorporate them into
FrameMaker, and then send the reviewer a copy to compare against. Our
process right now uses Adobe Standard so we can have collaborative reviews
(where everyone can see everyone else's markups). Since you are considering
a process that requires that a single reviewer change the checked-out
FrameMaker document, you may find that using the combination of Acrobat
Professional 7 to enable reviews by folks who have only Adobe Reader 7 will
meet your needs.

This has been such a good solution for us that I really think you should
give it another look. Feel free to contact me off list if you questions.

Subject: Workflow

We're having a workflow brainstorming session at work and from it we came
away with limited solutions. I'm curious if anybody else has their reviewers
directly edit frame documents, or how people are doing reviews. We have
several people which need to review documents and they are located in
several locations across the globe. The current idea is to use CVS and have
them checkout the Frame document, mark it up and check it back in (we would
control the commit process). But, I'm not sure how well this will work with
multiple reviewers looking at the same document at the same time. While PDF
might still be an option, nobody is thrilled with that option since it is a
very tedious process for everybody involved.

If people have ideas, please feel free to contact me off list if you don't
think this list is the right place for this discussion.

Wayne
