Re: Framemaker 6.0 on Windows XP

Dov to the rescue again! My hero!

The Adobe updater's error message had nothing to do with inability to find a directory, and everything to do with inability to find the expected version of FM: the error message simply lies, barefaced.

What really annoys me is the following:

(a) I was unable to even _find_ any updates for 6.0 by searching the Adobe Web site; eventually I reached what should have been the correct page via the FM+SGML 6.0 help.

(b) The hidden page I reached by that route showed a list of 6.0 updates; but not for FM+SGML, it turns out!! The oldest, updating p357 to p405, claims to be for both FM and FM+SGML. This Web page lies, barefaced.

(c) I have no idea how I would ever have found the real updates for FM+SGML without Dov coming to my rescue and providing the correct link.

Bad cess to whomever designed/implemented/tested(?)/approved _any and all_ of Adobe's egregious antediluvian installation routines for FM.

That's assuming one can install said patch. I moved to a Windows XP Pro system recently, and installed FM+SGML 6.0p357 from the original CD. Now I want to add patches, but the Adobe Updater claims it cannot find the installation directory! I've been using FM on this new system for a few days, and no other software has had trouble finding it...

Anyone else encounter this problem? If so, how did you get around it?
