I see what you're saying; you did mention working with "very large
FrameMaker files," didn't you? For me, that's not really an issue. My
books are usually no more than 5-10MB (not including referenced
graphics). I routinely open all the files in the book I'm working on;
sometimes, all the files in two or three books. Yet, even with several
other major apps running, I rarely have less than 200MB free physical
memory (out of 512). Lucky me. :-)

With much, much larger files, your suggestion will certainly help. But,
I stand by my advice to upgrade to Win2k or WinXP Pro if at all
possible. Much more stable.

OTOH, there's Dave Barry's contrary opinion: "Calling Windows XP 'the
most reliable Windows ever' is like calling asparagus 'the most
articulate vegetable ever.'" ;-)
