All: Judy experienced difficulties when OS X failed to prevent a file locked for one user was able to be opened, modified, and saved by another user. FrameMaker has always been able to manage its own file locking, mainly because when it began on UNIX the OS is not very good at file locking at the system level. You have always been able to open a file in one app and then the same file in the same app with a different user or even another app. Choose File > Preferences and then set Network File Locking (also called UNIX File Locking on older versions). FrameMaker now creates a <filename>.lck file whenever a file opens. It always checks to see if the file exists on SAVING only and will prevent a second user saving over the first user's file. Unfortunately, it still allows a second user to OPEN a file, work for three or four hours, and only when that user goes to save is he or she informed that the file cannot be written to. (Okay, Dov and Lee, when will FrameMaker open a locked file in read-only mode to save this irritation?)
