Eric, please clarify: The book itself has 2070 chapter files, or The book, it's chapters, and all imported files such as graphics, text insets, etc., total 2070 files. I find it hard to believe anyone would have 2070 chapters (including subchapters) in one book. Also, please clarify: Do the chapters in the book include large graphics files that are hi res and/or hi color? This may not be a bug. It may simply be the way it works (good, bad, or otherwise). Something else to consider: Break up the book into smaller books. -dg -----Original Message----- From: eric.dunn@ca.transport.bombardier.com [mailto:eric.dunn@ca.transport.bombardier.com] Sent: Tuesday, July 23, 2002 7:37 AM To: Framers@FrameUsers.com; Framers@omsys.com Subject: RE: Speed of Book Creation in FM 7 For those that are interested: FM Book with 2070 files: Time to create in FM7: Greater than 8 hrs. Time to save resulting Book in FM5.5.6: Not sure. Changing the selection of files seems to have a large hit on performance, so I selected save and left the computer to continue. Time to open resulting MIF in FM5.5.6: 30 minutes with 100% CPU usage. Time to save resulting Book in FM5.5.6: seconds. Time to open resulting Book in FM5.5.6: seconds. Time to open resulting Book in FM7: Don't want to try. Will probably be at least a couple of hours. FrameMaker has joined my list of software with annoying, pointless, frustrations and productivity sapping requirements. Unless someone can kindly tell me how to stomp this worthless "improvement", how can I report this to Adobe as a serious and unacceptable bug? Eric L.
