Subject: PDFs and font kerning - correct with some printers, incorrect with others?

Hello all, I'm having an issue with PDFs generated from FrameMaker 5.5.6 using Acrobat Distiller 4.0. Specifically, when printing the PDF to a printer with a PCL driver, a font kerning issue results. This font kerning issue does not appear on-screen, and does NOT appear when printing the PDF with a Postscript printer driver. For example, consider "TESTAudio" where "TEST" is italicised but "Audio" is not. This means that the second T will lean over into the first A's character space. With the non-Postscript printer driver, the top of the T is cut off exactly where the A's character space starts, instead of allowing them to overlap. It's just kind of baffling since this doesn't appear onscreen or with Postscript printer drivers. But most folks printing this will be using PCL drivers and will see the error. Any suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks. Chris Grant ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
