TOT: Lotus Notes crashes -- any clues?

All:

Please excuse this Totally Off Topic message, but the wise and wonderful
people on the Internet may be able to help where IT support cannot.

I have Lotus Notes 5.0.8 installed on Windows 2000. It crashes 3 or 4
times a day. IT Support's anwer is to reinstall Notes (fourth reinstall so
far) but the problem recurs.

The trouble is that a crash leaves orphan processes running and Notes
refuses to relaunch until you get rid of them. The error message says to
reboot your computer but actually I have found that you can kill the
processes in the Task Manager and relaunch without rebooting. For other
curious victims, these processes are:

     naldaemn.exe
     namgr.exe
     naldaemn.exe
nlnotes.exe // This is the main process, usually dead on arrival
nweb.exe // Calls a browser when you click an active hyperlink

IT Support also gave me a little utility called NotesMedic, which does the
same job as the Task Manager except that it seeks out and kills stray
processes immediately, then allows you to relaunch Notes. Its existence
sort of indicates that the problem is widespread, doesn't it?

Do any of you techheads have a clue as to where I should start looking to
stop these continual crashes?

Regards,
Hedley
