Re: [f2a] EPSLevelForPlacedPDF with FM7?

After you install FrameMaker 7, a number of PDF files with documentation
and customization information are placed on your system, including a file
"Customizing_Frame_Products.pdf" in which the "maker.ini" settings are
described.

On page 6 of that manual the "EPSLevelForPlacedPDF" entry is described
thusly:

• The EPSLevelForPlacedPdf specifies the level of EPS to use for placed
PDF images. By default, FrameMaker prints imported PDF (Placed PDF) files
by converting them to Level 2 EPS files. Use this setting to specify
Level 1 or Level 2.

This is slightly incorrect! The last sentence should read "Use this setting
to specify Level 1 or Level 3.

Quite frankly, if you are generating PDF from your FrameMaker documents
or printing DIRECTLY (not via Acrobat) to PostScript 3 devices, you should
use the entry:

        EPSLevelForPlacedPDF=3

Otherwise, your imported PDF will suffer quality loss, especially with
gradients and any spot color.
