After you install FrameMaker 7, a number of PDF files with documentation and customization information are placed on your system, including a file "Customizing_Frame_Products.pdf" in which the "maker.ini" settings are described. On page 6 of that manual the "EPSLevelForPlacedPDF" entry is described thusly: • The EPSLevelForPlacedPdf specifies the level of EPS to use for placed PDF images. By default, FrameMaker prints imported PDF (Placed PDF) files by converting them to Level 2 EPS files. Use this setting to specify Level 1 or Level 2. This is slightly incorrect! The last sentence should read "Use this setting to specify Level 1 or Level 3. Quite frankly, if you are generating PDF from your FrameMaker documents or printing DIRECTLY (not via Acrobat) to PostScript 3 devices, you should use the entry: EPSLevelForPlacedPDF=3 Otherwise, your imported PDF will suffer quality loss, especially with gradients and any spot color. - Dov At 6/12/2002 12:06 AM, Peter Harrison wrote: >There's nothing on my FM7 CD that I can find that says whether this useful >entry in the maker.ini is still needed - or effective - with FM7. > >Can someone (Dov??) please clarify? > >Thanks - Peter Harrison ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
