Equivalent to .ini in Mac FM7?

One of my beefs about FM6, 5, 4 etc for Mac was the lack of an .ini file.

Specifically, I want to set the $SGMLDIR to a network location so I can 
share the SGMLAPPS file (and thus applications) between PC and Macs.

This would also require common syntax in the sgmlapps file for pathnames 
(\ on Windows, : on Mac, presumably / in Unix).

The FM7 upgrade boxes are sitting on the shelf: this ability is one of a 
few things that would make me rush to install them.

Anyone know if 7 makes this possible?
