Re: Can't generate TOC/Index from a book

Hi Harvey,

Most likely there are error messages that pop up when the chapter files are
opened. They can be missing font messages, unresolved x-refs, or files from
prior releases, etc. The point is that FM won't generate files if it can't open
the source files in the background. The solution is to do one of two things:

* fix all the errors in the files so there are no error messages upon opening
the files
* open all the files in the book before trying to generate the TOC and IX.

If you have enough memory, the second option may be the most expedient.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Subject: Can't generate TOC/Index from a book

Greetings Frame Experts,

I hope my problem isn't one of those simple things that have already been
asked endless times, but I urgently need the advice of you Frame gurus in
solving my problem.

When trying to generate a TOC and index from a book consisting of six
chapters, I get a very cryptic error message: "Couldn't update this book,
because it contains no openable nogenerated files." All the document files
generate a TOC/index very nicely individually. But when I add them to a
book, which I've recreated several times today . . . ., something goes
haywire. FWIW, the page numbering is OK. What am I doing wrong?

I'm running Frame 6.0 on Win2000. Any and all assistance is greatly
appreciated, 'cause I've got to submit a deliverable to a client tomorrow
(Thursday) afternoon! Thanks very much.

Best regards,
