Instead of creating a regular list of figures, create an index of markers, and create markers for the figures, and tag the file suffix as "LOF". That way the custom LOF will pull the figure titles, but will be alphabetically sorted like an IX. You can format the entries and page layout as needed using the Master and Reference Pages.
