Re: Content Management

You can do a couple of things:

* You can use File Compare, using custom names (eg. the rev date or level) for
the "Inserted" and "Deleted" text, then save the .cmp file as your working copy.
This method "captures" the changes for each update, with the condition tag
serving as the indicator for the date/rev-level change.

* You can use FM+SGML (or structured docs in FM 7), setting a rev or date
attribute for each element, including paragraphs.

Just some suggestions.

Subject: Content Management

Hi,

What solutions do people use for content management within FrameMaker files?
I mean at the paragraph level, not just the file level.

For example, you want to know the dates when certain paragraphs were edited
or know which paragraphs were changed in the last 2 versions?

I have a couple of basic solutions which are really stop-gap rather than
full solutions IMHO. If there are better solutions, even add-ins by a 3rd
party please let me know.

 * I thought of firstly using the regular Change Bars facility. However,
this only shows the changes between the old and changed version.

* I also considered the use of conditional text but it would be a nightmare
to maintain a different conditional text name for each version. There would
be an unmanageable number of conditional text entries after a couple of
years on the same document.

Thanks,
Steve.
