Subject: Idea for managing EDDs and DTDs

After talk of maintaining data in version control systems, I began to (once again) wonder about the best methods to maintain DTDs and EDDs. Has anybody developed an SGML application for round-tripping EDDs to and from SGML? Seems to me an EDD saved in SGML form would be perfect for use in a version control system. I suppose (and I venture into conjecture as my knowledge of such things is what I glean from the lists) that the text only SGML would allow for the tracking of branches and multiple versions in systems such as CVS. This would probably enable multiple EDDs to be maintained and retain common content. Am I thinking straight or do I not have a clue? Anybody else have any thoughts? Eric L.
