RE: Can't print PDF files about FM 7.0?

When I can't even print a product announcement PDF from Unix reliably (or Windows) this indicates a major problem. And the idea that I could produce PDFs on Windows that I can print, but other people in the company can't (as you seem to describe) also strikes me as a bit of a problem for a Portable Document Format. Dov, can you comment on all this?

Does Adobe have a suggested network wide printer driver installation procedure that it can provide an IT department so that the use of network drivers can function better than what Jim describes below? I have installed my own drivers in the past, but it seems to me that a major site of FrameMaker 4, 5, 5.56 users and Acrobat 3, 4 and 5 users (OS variations being: Solaris, Win9X,NT,2000, Linux and OS/2) ought to get some suggested "best practices" from Adobe so that their IT department has the best information to work with (and deploy).

I think I may have a hard time selling this company on the virtues of FM7.0 if I can't even print out the product information. (This despite the fact that I think the XML stuff might be very useful to us.)

I'm not sure if this relates to the described problem, but the first thing I
do at every new job is to set up a printer instance that does *not* use the
company's default print driver on the network (which are always HP).

My curent employer uses an HP 8150 on a LAN. So I download the 8150 printer
bundle from HP and unpack it on my hard drive. Then I run Adobe's universal
print driver installer. When it asks what printer to use, I point it to the
HP 8150 files. When it asks what port or location (depending on the OS), I
give it the network path of the printer.

I've never had a any printing problems. But if I share files with others who
are using the network print driver, they have problems.

You don't specify your printers, but could they be HP Laserjet
4050 or similar? I have the same problem, and it was explained
to me by Dov Isaacs about a year ago:
