I'm not sure what level of detail you're looking for. So, here goes... The TOC (and LOT and LOF) are generated files. They originate new tags whose names are based on the paratags you specified to include when you added the generated files to the book. e.g. With the book file active, choose Add > Table of Contents and you'll see all this. Formatting the paratags in a generated file is a combination of using the Paragraph Designer and manipulating the building blocks on the Reference page. I did a couple of quick tests, and they appear to come from the saved state of the book . . . whatever paragraph tags are in the chapters in the currently saved book. Is that correct?
